Entity Data is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and is a supporting member of Carbon Planet and GreenPower Renewable Energy. Entity Data will use best-practise green technology both in it's own facilities and in consultation with it's clients.

As one of the major VPS virtualisation service providers operating in Australia, Entity Data is focused on making it's customers aware of the "green" benefits in using a Virtual Server over a dedicated physical server.

Virtual Servers reduce power use "Green Friendly"

Generally a company with a need for hosting a critical application will buy or hire a dedicated server, this server will then be installed in a data centre and configured as specified by the customer. In most cases this powerful physical server will be very underutilised in terms of it's potential processing power, disk storage, memory utilisation, etc; but will still use significant amounts of power and generate heat which must be removed by power hungry data centre cooling systems.

The same physical server can be "chopped up" into multiple virtual server environments that more efficiently share the resources of the physical server, meaning that potentially 20 or 30 virtual environments can be created inside the one physical server with the ability to dynamically allocate resources as required. The green benefits of virtualisation technology are undisputable.

An Entity Data VPS will generate roughly 55 BTU's per hour, when a dedicated physical server will generate over 1200 BTU's per hour. A normal 100 watt home light bulb generates 300 BTU's per hour.

Carbon Minimised

Entity Data will aim to improve it's current status and become Carbon Minimised by 2012 by using only green friendly technology and considering it's current status both in the purchase and implementation of new technology but also the status of those who we partner with.
